Young people have access to thousands of news sites and sources, which can be difficult to navigate without the critical thinking skills needed to judge their reliability and credibility.

This lesson gives students an introduction to news literacy. Students will explore where they get their news from, and what they can trust. They will learn how to spot fake news stories and how to think critically about the news they consume.

Students will be given 12 news stories to look at, and using their ‘top tips for getting to the truth’ handout, they must decide which stories are real and can be trusted, which stories are fake and which stories are satirical.
